Botham hails 'magnificent' Stokes for historic double ton

Former England all-rounder Ian Botham has heaped praise on Ben Stokes, describing him as 'magnificent, after he became the fastest player of his country to reach double century in the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

Stokes took 163 balls to reach the milestone on the second day of the second Test against South Africa, surpassing Botham's record of 220 balls against India in 1982.

Reflecting on Stokes' performance, the 60-year-old great said that it was one of the best examples of Test cricket he had seen after a long time, Sport24 reported.

Describing Stokes as 'box office', Botham insisted that the former had a capability to help his side in winning matches, adding that no one could stop him to perform well.

Stokes also broke the record of second quickest-double century in the Test history, beaten only by former New Zealand opener Nathan Astle, from 153 balls against England in 2002.
