Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) Government following the violence during the West Bengal panchayat polls, and alleged that the central forces were never deployed by the administration.
Karat said that it was at the Supreme Court directions that the state government under Mamata Banerjee was forced to hold the panchayat elections and to have central forces, which she never wanted ever.
"But what has she done? She is actually in contempt of the Supreme Court because those (central) forces which were sent were never deployed by her government. The central forces just can't go to any booth; they have to be deployed by the authority which refused to deploy them," said Karat.
"So, what's the use of sending central forces under the Supreme Court's guidance and not using them at all and making them sit at the block office?" she asked.
Karat further said that the CPI (M) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) in this regard.
"And we hope that the Election Commission will take these complaints seriously and whatever is within their jurisdiction they will take that action," she added.
