Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) leader Brinda Karat urged the Karnataka Government to intervene in the case relating sexual assault case of a minor girl in Bangalore, and said that a notice should be sent to the school authorities.

"The Karnataka Government should immediately intervene. The government should send a notice to the school over this issue," said Karat.

"How can we send our children to schools if they can't protect them? It is the responsibility of the school authorities to ensure the safety of kids in school premises and buses," she added.

Earlier today, the chairman of the Bangalore school where a minor girl was sexually assaulted, R Kerawalla, said that the accused is in police custody and an investigation is on.

"The meeting could not be concluded due to the situation .Safety is paramount and we should have the patience to await conclusion that the authorities come with," said Kerawalla.

"All cooperation is being given to the authorities. Whosoever is guilty, they are under police custody. But nobody is involved from the management," he said.

The girl of Vibgyor School on Varthur-Haralur Road, near Kundalahalli Gate was allegedly raped on July 2. Since the incident, angered parents have vandalised the school premises over a demand for an explanation.
