The British media has claimed that the resemblance of results between Manchester United's 1921-22 season and new manager David Moyes' first set of matches suggests that the club may be relegated from the top division this season.

According to the Daily Star, United finished bottom of the pile that season and the club's fans will be hoping it is merely a coincidence rather than a certainty.

John Chapman became the first Scot to manage United, but his spell in charge saw the club relegated from the top flight, the report said.

United spent three seasons in England's second tier, before sealing promotion back to Division One in 1925 as runners-up, the report added.

Moyes, who took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer, will be desperate to ensure these facts are consigned to the history books starting with Saturday's home match with Stoke City, according to the report.
