The last remaining Nazi Dornier bomber used during the World War II Blitz on London gas been recovered by a British Museum from the English Channel.

The move has demanded multiple attempts such as recovering the plane at midnight and each time the plans had to be abandoned due to bad weather, FOX News reports.

Head of collections at the RAF Museum Ian Thirsk said that the effort is to restore the piece of history that has been buried on the seafloor of Goodwin Sands for decades.

According to the report, Hitler had sent the plane to the southeast coast of England to attack the country and the plane has been buried in the shallow grave 60 feet under the sea since it was shot down in 1940.

Thirsk emphasized that recovering the plane is a very significant task for the museum as it is a unique piece of history and there are no other Dornier 17 planes left.

The museum along with other organizations has also planned for elaborate means to preserve the plane to strip away the Channel's chemicals and prevent exposure to oxygen.
