England bowled Sri Lanka out for 257 on the first day of the second Test with fast-medium bowler Stuart Broad grabbing a hat-trick.
Skipper Alastair Cook opted to field first on winning the toss and England bowlers did a good job as they wrapped up Sri Lanka on day one.
According to the BBC, England then went in to bat and completed the day on 36-0 with Cook and opening partner Sam Robson batting for the hosts.
England could have wrapped up Sri Lanka at an even lower score if they would have taken their chances with the visitors batsman Kumar Sangakkara, who was let off on four occasions as he made 79.
However, Sangakkara became subject to Broad's first of three wickets in three balls, which sparked a collapse that resulted in the tourists losing their last five wickets for 29 runs.
Cook will return on 14, with Robson, in his second Test, unbeaten on 21, as England have the chance for the first-innings advantage in the second match of the two-match Test series.
