Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) D K Pathak on Monday flagged off the contingent for the ninth United Nations Organisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo here.
The BSF Peace-Keeping Mission which is the ninth consecutive contingent to Congo holds a total strengthen of 135 personnel which comprises seven officers, seven subordinate officers and 121 members of other ranks.
The contingent that will be deployed in the African nation for a year to perform the duties is led by Commandant Yuvraj Dubey.
Pathak said that this is a prestigious assignment and a specific capsule training on the United Nations based guidelines was imparted by the BSF to the personnel for their selection.
"All the guidelines and qualitative requirements for the personnel appointed to go for the Peace Keeping mission are prescribed by the United Nations and on that basis the candidates here are selected. A test is been conducted for them after which a three month French learning course is implemented so that they can speak local language when they reach. And the UN team comes for second round of test for the candidate's selection gauging their talents and makes the final decision," Pathak said.
The contingent has been trained to fight challenges of the troubled nation, the menace of civil war and assist the local police in maintaining law and order.
