The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized large quantities of marijuana, worth Rs. 15 lakhs, from the Mohanpur area of Tripura.

The marijuana was allegedly bound for Bangladesh.

"We led a search operation and recovered more than 2.5 quintal marijuana, worth around Rs 15 lakh, after receiving intelligence that a consignment of dry marijuana would be smuggled through the border into Bangladesh," BSF 195th Battalion Deputy Commandant Murlidhar said.

"This is a continuous operation to stop smuggling of drugs and other contraband into Bangladesh," he added.

This is the second incident of confiscation of marijuana in the area in less than a week. Earlier, a consignment worth more than Rs. 25 lakhs was seized from the region.

The BSF is carrying out operations against the marijuana and phensedyl smugglers throughout the state.

Till December last year BSF had already destroyed Bangladesh-bound marijuana worth over Rs. eight crores and contraband worth Rs. 15 crores in Tripura.
