Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said that poor people, students and businessmen would benefit a lot from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)'s recent free roaming service.

"BSNL has taken a landslide decision for the benefit of its customers. Starting from today, if you use BSNL, you can travel anywhere in the world without being charged for incoming calls. Poor people, students and businessmen will benefit a lot from this initiative," Prasad told ANI here.

"I thank BSNL whole-heartedly and urge the users of the country to make full use of this benefit," he added.

Telecommunications company BSNL began its free roaming service on Monday, under which customers will not have to pay to use mobile services while travelling outside the circle to which their connection belongs.

Apart from this, BSNL will also be setting up 5,000 base transceiver station (BTS) towers across the country to provide better services to its customers.

According to reports, 1,250 of the BTS towers will be erected in Bihar to improve the state's connectivity.
