Buddhist monks studying at the Tergar Monastery in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, celebrated Diwali on Thursday.
"Both India and Nepal are celebrating Diwali and everyone is enjoying. Our teachers are also enjoying and bursting crackers with us and celebrating Diwali," said one of the monks, Karma Pema.
The Tergar Monastery was formed in Bodh Gaya initially to impart training to the young monks most of whose families have fled Tibet.
Thousands of people, including spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, had fled into exile in India after a failed uprising against Chinese rule, and have since been living in various refugee colonies, settlements across India.
Diwali celebrates the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and the killing of demon king Ravana.
Diwali is also celebrated in honour of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, who showers her blessings upon those homes that are clean and well lit.
