On the day when the world is commemorating International Women's Day, a woman hailing from Rampur District of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday alleged that her modesty was outraged by the conductor and driver of the bus she was travelling in, while her 14-day-old baby died in jostling.
The incident took place in the Shishgarh police station area in Bareilly district on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday, when the victim, a resident of Khajuria village in Rampur, boarded a private bus with her child at Shahi for Shishgarh on her way to Rampur.
When the bus was vacated at the Shishgarh bus stand, the conductor and driver of the bus allegedly gangraped the woman, while in jostling her child got injured and died on the spot, alleged the victim.
Bareilly Superintendent of Police R.K. Bhardwaj told ANI that following a complaint by the victim, police have registered a case against the driver and conductor of the bus.
The body of the child has been sent for a post-mortem, while a medical examination of the woman was also conducted, said the SP, adding that both reports are awaited.
He said police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
However, it was not clear immediately whether police have booked the accused for the death of the child or not.
