Button ready to suffer win drought this year if able to challenge for F1 title in 2014

McLaren driver Jenson Button has admitted that he is ready to go without a win this year if he is able to challenge for the Formula One winner title in 2014.

According to the Mirror, Button's statement comes as McLaren prepare for the ghastly possibility this will be their worst campaign since 1980 as they are without a podium finish, let alone a victory ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Insisting that Woking-based team were in business to claim the sport's real glories instead of the occasional success, Button however, said that he would rather fight for the world championship next year than get a win this year and one win next year.

According to Button, the priority must be a return to the sport's top table in 2014 given that a puzzling gamble on a radical car design in this championship blew up in their faces, although he added that McLaren has been making technical changes on his car to help with the design of next year's machine.

However, the report added that fate is playing into McLaren's hands as all their key rivals, Red Bull, Lotus, Ferrari and Mercedes, are forced to maintain the major thrust of their efforts on this year with the world championship still in play.

The report also mentioned that Button knows more about winning in Hungary than any other circuit in the championship, except Australia as it has been the scene of some of his greatest glories - he celebrated his 200th grand prix in some style with victory in Hungary in 2011.
