Extended his support to free trade, President Donald Trump in his first address to the joint session of Congress pitched for 'Buy American and Hire American.'
"I believe in free trade, but it also must be fair trade. I'm not going to let our great companies and workers be taken advantage of anymore," Trump said.
He urged the Congress to allow the sanction of one trillion dollars to help rebuild America which will be guided by 'Buy American and Hire American'.
"The first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, warned that the abandonment of the protective policy by the American Government [will] produce want and ruin among our people. Lincoln was right -- and it is time we heeded his words. I am not going to let America and its great companies and workers, be taken advantage of anymore," he added.
In a bid to back his contention, Trump said he will begin renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) when he meets with the leaders of Canada and Mexico.
