Cricket Australia (CA) has reportedly fined a first-class cricketer 1,000 dollars for his post on Twitter, in which he hit out at head selector John Inverarity over the controversial selection of Shaun Marsh for the upcoming tour of South Africa.

New South Wales wicketkeeper Daniel Smith was fined for his tweet in which he called for Inverarity to lose his job, adding that picking players in a 'good space' over players with runs on the board is a 'joke'.

According to Fox Sports, Smith, who also plays for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, however, removed the tweet later and apologised to his 15,000 followers, saying that he was only disappointed that a 'mate' of his was left out of the tour.

However, CA punished the cricketer for breaching the code of behaviour relating to public comment 'that is detrimental to the interests of cricket, irrespective of when or where such comment is made'.

The report mentioned that Inverarity's assertion that Marsh's form on the tour of South Africa back in 2011 played a part in his selection drew the ire of many cricket fans as Marsh is averaging just 30 in the Sheffield Shield this summer.

Smith admitted to the offence and accepted his punishment, the report added.
