The Uber cab driver accused of raping a 27-year-old woman passenger last week, was on Monday sent to a three-day police remand after being produced at the Tis Hazari court.
Meanwhile, Special Commissioner of Transport K S Ganger said that the driver's licence of the accused has been canceled.
"The cab service has been banned and the accused will be punished according to the law," said Union Minister Ananth Kumar.
Earlier today, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called the incident extremely unfortunate and shameful.
The Uber taxi service issued a fresh statement assuring its full co-operation to help the victim and her family.
According to reports, the Uber Cab driver accused of raping a 27-year-old woman on Friday, had been convicted for a similar crime in 2011 and had spent over seven months in prison. However, he was later granted bail.
A case had reportedly been registered under Sections 376 ( rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sarai Rohilla police station and the accused was arrested last evening at Mathura.
