California is reportedly on its path to make it illegal to post pictures as a way of 'revenge porn' with punishment including six-month imprisonment or 1,000 dollars in fine or both.
The state assembly is expected to pass a bill which would state it to be a criminal offence to post pictures of anyone online in a state of full or partial undress even if they have been posted with the concerned person's consent.
According to the BBC, prosecutors would have to prove the intent to cause serious emotional distress and that the other person suffers serious emotional distress.
There have been instances in the past where distressed lovers would post the pictures of their partners on social media as a way of revenge with the current being not much fair to tackle the online embarrassment; the revised bill might help address the issue.
