The Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to stay the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) notification by which the regulatory body had imposed fine on dropped calls.

The TRAI had given an undertaking that no fine will be levied till next hearing.

The next date of hearing has been set on January 6 and the notification will come into effect from January 1st, 2016.

The Delhi High Court had earlier sought response of the TRAI on a plea challenging its tariff order making it mandatory for cellular operators to compensate subscribers for call drops from January 1.

The telecom operators had sought quashing of the TRAI's October 16 ruling mandating service providers to pay subscribers Re 1 per call drop experienced on their network, subject to a cap of three a day.
