People suffering from recurrent and uncontrollable outbursts have significantly higher levels of inflammation, it has been revealed.

Research has revealed that there is a high link between intermittent explosive disorder and inflammation and the study has suggested that anti-inflammatory drugs may help in controlling the condition, the New York Daily News reported.

The lead study author Dr. Emil Coccaro said it is still uncertain whether inflammation leads to IED or if it's the other way around, but the two do appear to be linked.

Scientists from the University of Chicago and the University of Colorado are now trying to study if taking anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin could help calm the condition.

The study was published in JAMA Psychiatry journal.
