An individual will not be able to book more than six tickets online in a month on IRCTC website from his account from February 15.

The new rule is aimed at preventing possible misuse of online booking of tickets.

With an aim to prevent any possible misuse, the ministry of railways decided that a maximum of six tickets could be booked online by an individual user in a month on IRCTC website, which would replace the existing system under which a maximum of 10 tickets could be booked in a month by an individual.

However, the existing condition will continue wherein these booking will be subject to a limit of booking two opening tatkal tickets during 10-12 am in a day and two opening advance reservation period (ARP) tickets during 8-10 am-period in a day.

The railway ministry in a release said this has been done keeping in view the analysis of usage of quota of 10 tickets, which indicated that 90% of users are booking up to six tickets in a given month and only 10% are booking more than six tickets.

It is suspected that thoese 10% users might be involved in touting activities, and therefore, to deter such touts and to facilitate genuine users, the decision has been taken, it said.
