Canada's Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, will be visiting New Delhi on Tuesday.
Leitch is will meet with the Indian ministers responsible for labour and women's issues to discuss topics such as the rights of women and children and how to best encourage more women to join India's growing economy.
Leitch will also be meeting Kailash Satyarthi, co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, to discuss issues such as promoting women's rights and the need to fight early, child and forced marriage.
In addition, a meeting with the Deputy Director of the International Labour Organization's Decent Work Team for South Asia and Country Office for India, and participation in a roundtable on the rights of women and girls organized by Canada's International Development Research Centre are on her agenda.
Leitch's visit to New Delhi follows her attendance at the Vibrant Gujarat in Ahmedabad, where she spoke at the seventh annual Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit yesterday about the importance of corporate social responsibility and how companies and the communities in which they operate can both benefit from responsible business practices.
In Gujarat, Leitch also met with representatives from grassroots organizations to discuss women's empowerment and other labour-related issues.
