The High Commission of Canada marked World Environment Day on Tuesday by organising a half- day fun filled summer workshop for teenagers from 12 to17 years of age in association with the Eco Roots Foundation.
Marie Josee Charbonneau, counselor and head of the Advocacy Programme at the high commission told ANI that it was really important for Candian diplomats and citizens to show their commitment to protecting the environment.
"This is the second time we are conducting a workshop in Delhi, just ahead of the World Environment Day, and water and energy conservation is the theme this year. And, it has a particular significance, because Canada and India do a lot projects together on water management, and we are also developing a big energy conservation relationship with India since Canada is a big supplier of traditional energy," said Charbonneau.
Fifteen-year-old Shaswat Chandra, who participated in the summer workshop, talked about how to prevent water pollution in the country.
"The government needs to take preventive measures for water pollution and youngsters need to be aware about the preventive measures as well," Chandra said.
Ranika Kappor of the Eco Roots Foundation gifted saplings to all the teenagers and also organized a post card drawing activity for the kids, which focused on how to save the environment. (ANI)
