Muzaffarnagar's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hari Narayan Singh said on Wednesday that a candle march has been organized today to mark one year of the Muzaffarnagar riots that claimed at least 60 lives.
Singh told ANI, "It has completed a year now, and we have planned a candle march for that today. It will include all from old age people to children. The soul of those who lost their lives in the incident should rest in peace."
"Alongside, from September 1 to 8 we have organized a function which will have street play, sports, cultural programme, rally and related activities so that environment of peace is created among people. It will happen in order to spread awareness," he added.
"This is their personal function, and invitations have been sent to the same kind. There is not any kind of trouble in that and we have talked to everybody already. Even then we have taken all the precautionary measures and are prepared for it completely", he added.
At least 60 persons lost their lives in riots that took place in Muzaffarnagar and its neighbouring districts in September last year while thousands of people were left displaced.
