The Children's Film Society of India (CFSI) announced plans to launch a National Children's Film Festival (NCFF) in a bid to expose youngsters to global cinema.

CFSI is an autonomous body under India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which was founded in 1955, and which has been promoting children's films across the globe.

The three-day festival will begin on November 14 at the Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi, on the occasion of Children's Day, the birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Films made in India or made by Indian filmmakers will be showcased at the festival.

CFSI's CEO, Shravan Kumar said that NCFF aims to explore and expose best of global cinema to Indian children audiences.

"National Children's Film Festival (NCFF), 2014, is an initiative from the Children's Film Society of India (CFSI) which will now be held every alternate year. The Children's Film Society of India has been organising the International (Children's) Film Festival every alternate year to make global cinema available for Indian children. Taking the same tradition forward we have started the National Children's Film Festival," Kumar said.

Kumar also added that another aim of this festival was to celebrate childhood through films.

The theme for the inaugural edition of NCFF will be 'Swachhta' (Cleanliness), falling in line with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Mission) launched nationwide by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month.

The festival will also see various other workshops to be held for children including those for film making, dance and music.

Bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Sonakshi Sinha, Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan have come forward to promote the festival.
