The "Bangladesh coordinator" of the Islamic State (IS), Mohammad Sakhawatul Kabir, who was captured by Bangladeshi police in Dhaka yesterday along with three other suspected members, has reportedly revealed that they had trained in Pakistan, police said.
Shaikh Nazmul Alam, deputy police commissioner with Dhaka's detective and criminal intelligence division, said that they were found carrying a large number of leaflets related to militancy for training, a laptop and other materials, reported the Dawn.
They were arrested by police from Jatrabari and Khilkhet areas of Dhaka.
Alam said that Kabir also revealed that the terror cell he ran from Dhaka was planning to collect funds and weapons for attacks on Bangladesh government targets.
Reports of the IS making inroads into South Asia have raised concerns but it remains unclear if the militants organizing terror cell under the name of the IS were acting on their own or as part of a centralised initiative coming out of the Middle East.
