Caroline Wozniacki has spoken up on her spit with golfer Rory McIlroy, saying that it felt like someone close to her had died.

The 24-year-old former world number one tennis star said that until "that" moment, she was extremely happy in her head, as she had a great career, was getting married, had a perfect family, and there was really nothing going against her, the Independent reported.

But then suddenly her world turned upside down, and she didn't know how strong she was until that happened, added Wozniacki, referring to McIlroy's sudden break-up with her, after their wedding invitations had been sent out.

The tennis ace said that it taught her a lot, and she grew a lot in that short period of time, realizing the people who were actually always there for her.

After their split, while the world's number one golfer, won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, Wozniacki had an upsetting first-round exit at the French Open.

However, Wozniacki, who felt at the time like it was her funeral, has since returned to form, reaching her first grand slam final since 2009 at the U.S. Open in September and going back up to number 5 in the world.
