Catherine Zeta-Jones is filling in the role of real life kingpin Griselda Blanco in upcoming biopic 'The Godmother.'

The project which would be helmed by Norwegian director Eva Sorhaug, from a script by Frank Baldwin, would be produced by Daniela Cretu under her First Born Films banner, while Oscar-nominated Nicholas Pileggi acts as executive producer, Deadline.com reported.

This wouldn't be the 45-year-old star's first such role, as Zeta-Jones was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing ruthless wife of a drug lord in 2000's 'Traffic.'

Blanco was the first and only woman to rise to the higher echelons of Colombia's Medellin drug cartel in the 1970s and '80s, and was portrayed in the 2006 Magnolia Pictures-released documentary Cocaine Cowboys. The mother-of-four became a multi-millionaire by her forties, and after a 1985 arrest, served 18 years in prison before being released in 2004. She was deported back to Colombia, where she was killed in a motorcycle drive-by assassination in 2012.

Filming for the project is slated to begin early in 2015.
