Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said all the states and Union Territories have been asked to ensure that unlicensed web-based cab services like Uber are banned from operating.
Explaining the sequence of events in the recent Uber Cab rape case in the Rajya Sabha, Singh said that the car in which the incident took place on Friday had been brought to New Delhi and a forensic investigation was underway.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said that a case had been registered and an investigation was underway against the accused Uber cab driver for forging his character certificate.
"An FIR has been registered over the forged signatures; strict action will be taken against those responsible. After arresting the accused, we produced the driver before court, have been given custody of him for three days, and are [currently] interrogating him," said Bassi.
Uber, an international taxi-booking service, was debarred from plying in the national capital on Monday after the incident. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has also summoned the local Chief Executive Officer of the international taxi-booking service. he Delhi Police has lodged an FIR against Uber under IPC sections 420, 34, and 188 for cheating customers on the pretext of providing safe commuting with duly verified driver. The police will also reportedly continue questioning officials of the taxi service in Delhi.
