Centre and Delhi Govt. form 6-ministerial committee to revive Yamuna

The Centre and the Delhi Government on Wednesday joined hands to revive the fate of Yamuna River in the capital.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and law minister Kapil Mishra met Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu and Minister of Water Resources Uma Bharti to discuss the plans of reviving Yamuna.

"The Central Government and the Delhi Government have come forward for cleaning the Yamuna River, its beautification and inland transport facility," said Naidu after the meeting.

"In the meeting it was decided to have a small committee consisting of Water Resources Ministry, Urban Development Ministry, Surface Transport Ministry, Environment Ministry, Delhi Development Authority and Delhi Government," he added.

Naidu stated that the committee, which would work under the chairmanship of Secretary of Water Resource Ministry, has the mandate to study various aspects including the suggestion to have a special purpose vehicle.

"The committee will give its report till September 30, by discussing all the proposals by the ministries that would be discussed again with the ministerial group," he added.
