Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma on Thursday defended the Centre's move to discontinue stamps in the name of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and blamed the Congress Party of hampering the development of the nation by questioning the Centre's move.

"The Government of India is a progressive one. If opposition has problem with the way we are functioning then it does not mean that we will stop working. Small birds makes more noise. They are left only in few numbers now, so they are making such allegations which have no practical importance," Sharma told ANI here today.

Meanwhile, the Congress Party on Wednesday protested against the government's decision to discontinue two postal stamps on former prime ministers and party leaders, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

Defending the Centre's move, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said:"All those who contributed to the freedom struggle or in the creation of modern India should be honoured. It cannot be the prerogative of one family.
