The Union Home Ministry has recently formed a six-member committee to look into the concerns of people from the north east residing across the country.

The committee, led by former IAS officer M P Bezbaruah will examine the cause for violence and discrimination against people from the north east and suggest measures to be taken by the government to address these concerns.

One representative from each north eastern state will also be a part of the panel.

Shambhu Singh, Joint Secretary (North East) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, said: "Everybody is an Indian. Their children are our children also. We are trying our level best to deal with the issue. I would say a rather little bit of unfortunate time that one after another three four incidents have already taken place. We are very concerned and we are working out more modalities. Delhi High Court also looked into the matter and we are keeping the honorable High Court informed of what we proposed to do and police of course has been acting very fast, people have been arrested."

A large number of people from the Northeast come to Delhi and other metropolitan cities for education and in search for work.

The government is taking every possible step to ensure their safety and welfare.
