The Centre on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it has returned over half the names recommended to it for appointment as high court judges by the collegium of judges headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI).

Out of 77 names recommended by collegium to the government, 34 have been cleared for appointment as high court judges.

The appointments of 34 judges has been made by the Centre.

The rest of the 43 names recommended by the collegium for appointment as high court judges have been returned, the Centre told the Supreme Court.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the Supreme Court that it is unfortunate that the collegium is yet to respond to the draft MoP that the Centre had submitted to it on August 7.

Chief Justice T.S. Thakur said the collegium would meet again on November 15, and posted the issue for hearing on November 18.
