Representatives from the Commonwealth Games Federation have visited Glasgow ahead of the 2014 Games and have claimed that the city is well on track for hosting an outstandingly successful Games.

According to The Scotsman, the representatives spent a week in the city, visiting venues and assessing security and transport arrangements in preparation for next summer.

Vice president Bruce Robertson said that, with eight months to go, the organising team had hit all its targets and the Games were so far being delivered on budget, according to the report.

The committee said Glasgow 2014, led by chief executive David Grevemberg, had provided detailed plans to meet the needs of athletes, spectators, volunteers and stakeholders, the report mentioned.

They credited the 'excellent' partnership between Glasgow 2014, Glasgow City Council, Police Scotland and the Scottish Government, the report said.

Robertson said that the launch of the Queen's Baton Relay was been extremely well received and today the baton is in the Gold Coast, their next Games host in 2018.

CGF chief executive Mike Hooper said that the Games promise to be a unique Glaswegian and Scottish experience.
