Chelsea have smashed their hopes of earning a valuable first-leg lead in their Champions League last-16 against Galatasaray after drawing 1-1 with the Turkish side on Wednesday away at the Turk Telekom Arena.
Chelsea was aiming to provide a much-needed boost for English clubs following a miserable fortnight, which had already seen Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United suffer 2-0 losses in their Champions League ties.
According to the BBC, although the Premier League leaders were firmly in command after Fernando Torres' early goal gave them a deserved lead, however, the Spaniard spurned an early second-half chance to double the advantage, following which the hosts' Aurelien Chedjou converted unmarked from close range.
The Turkish champions went into the match on the back of a 16-game unbeaten run at the Turk Telecom Arena and former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini set up his team to make the most of their home advantage, the report added.
