Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Wednesday announced three-day state mourning in the memory of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Sunder Lal Patwa.

Earlier in the day, Singh took to twitter to express his grief over the demise of the BJP veteran.

"Saddened by the demise of former MP CM Sunder Lal Patwa ji. Deep condolences to the bereaved family. May the departed soul rest in peace," Singh tweeted.

The veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and two-times Madhya Pradesh chief minister passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack. He was 92.

Patwa, who was born on November 11, 1924, in Kukreshwar, also served as the cabinet minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government from 1999 to 2001.

He began his political career with Jana Sangh, which merged with the Janata Party in 1977.
