China has asked Pakistan to 'guarantee the safety' of its citizens in the country after condemning the attack on foreign tourists in Gilgit-Baltistan.
China also asked the Pakistani government to assure the legitimate rights of Chinese in Pakistan.
According to the Express Tribune, in a pre-dawn attack, at least three Chinese and five Ukrainian climbers were killed as gunmen dressed as paramilitary forces killed nine foreign tourists in an unprecedented attack in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Foreign Ministry of China strongly condemned the violent attack that resulted in 11 deaths, including those of several Chinese tourists.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson's office said the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan was in close contact with Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry and military to further verify information related to the incident, the report said.
The embassy further requested Pakistan to arrest the gunmen and guarantee the safety of Chinese citizens in Pakistan.
