China set to have world's largest subway system by 2020

Chinese Minister of Transport has claimed that the country would soon surpass other nations in the combined length of its Metro systems which is likely to reach 8,500 kilometres by 2020.

Deputy mayor of Beijing Dai Junliang said that subway has had a major effect on easing congestion in Beijing and that the government will provide more funds to promote its development.

Beijing subway would be extended to 527 kilometres this month marking China's longest subway as four new lines would open to the public, reported China Daily.

The Beijing Commission of Transport said that the commuters would increase to more than 10 million gradually.
