China has unveiled its first anti-drone laser weapon capable of downing small aircrafts within five seconds of locating them.
According to The Verge, the system which is operable within a 1.2 mile radius of the installation, system is designed for drones flying at altitudes around 1600 feet and at speeds of just over 100 miles per hour, putting most military drones within reach of the device.
China conducted its first public test of the system by shooting down more than 30 drones.
The Chinese revealed their latest defense weapon taking cue from the US military, which had tested a similar device aboard the USS Ponce, successfully tracking and bringing down a surveillance drone in 2012.
