Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja on Wednesday said he hoped Chinese President Xi Xinping's visit to India will open up a new chapter in Sino-Indian relations, which will be good not only for the region, but also for the whole world.
"It is good that India and China should work together, should co-operate and reach out to achieve common goals. We are all hopeful that Chinese President's visit will open up a new chapter in the relationship between India and China. We want the relations between India and China should grow strength to strength," Raja told ANI here.
"The co-operation between our two countries must be taken at a higher level that is good in not only for India and China but good for entire region and whole world. So we are all positive and looking forward with great optimism about the outcome of Chinese leaders visit," he added.
Giving his view about a series of agreements which will be signed during the Chinese leaders India visit, Raja said, "Whatever appears in media indicate that there will be substantial agreements signed between India and China. It is good that the relationship between China and India is improving. The co-operation is improving in different sectors and spheres of economic activity."
Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive in Ahmedabad this afternoon, accompanied by a high level delegation, for a three-day state visit.
He will be received by Gujarat Governor O.P. Kohli, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and her cabinet colleagues at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport at around 2 p.m.
President Jinping, his wife and his entourage will be given a traditional welcome along with a guard of honour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will welcome him in Vastrapur, after which, both leaders will hold talks.
It is expected that both sides will sign three memoranda of understanding (MoUs). Of them, two are for relations between Guangdong and Gujarat and Guangzhou and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The third MoU is related to cooperation in the industrial sector.
President Jinping's three-day visit is expected to focus largely be on ramping up bilateral trade and investment, besides addressing the contentious border issue between the two Asian giants.
India expects that the visit will address the "interests and concerns" of both the countries and that "all substantive" issues having bearing on the ties including the boundary dispute will be discussed.
Keen to boost its trade ties with India, the Chinese side has already indicated that it will pledge to invest billions of dollars in India's railway, manufacturing and infrastructure projects during the Xi Jinping's visit, the third by any Chinese President to India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said India will seek greater engagement with China, but at the same time, will also look for progress on "issues of concern" saying their resolution will transform the atmosphere in the relations.
