Coal India Limited (CIL) has supplied 407.02 MT coal to power sector during the current year up to February 4, thereby achieving a growth of 7.3 per cent over the same period of last year.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Coal Ministry said that as on February 4 the average rake loading of CIL to power sector including loading from washery and good-shed is 252.5 rakes per day, which is an impressive growth of 13 per cent over the same period of last year.

This supply is likely to further increase due to the opening of the Dhanbad-Chandrapuraline which shall facilitate the faster evacuation of coal from the BCCL subsidiary of CIL.

The increased coal supply has resulted in building up of comfortable coal stock at the end of the thermal power plants (TPPs).

As on February 4, power plants are having 20.870 MT coal stock which is sufficient for 13 days. This is an increase of 42 per cent over the stock of the same period of the last year. The coal stock at TPPs on February 4 was 14.68 MT, said the ministry.
