The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Tuesday detained a passenger with foreign currency worth Rs 12.87 lakh at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The passenger named Harpreet Singh was supposed to travel to Dubai by Jet Airways flight No.9W-588 on Tuesday evening at 4.55 pm when during the pre-embarkation security check (frisking) at Security Hold Area (SHA) of Terminal-3, IGI Airport, Sub-Inspector Md Hussain noticed presence of some item concealed under the clothes that the passenger was wearing which appeared to be suspicious.
According to CISF, the passenger was taken to a separate place in SHA for a pat-down search. During the pat-down search, high volume of foreign currency in different denominations allegedly concealed in his clothes (inner wear) was recovered.
He was allegedly carrying 4000 Swiss Francs, 11100 Euros- 11100 and 3155 Dirhams. The approximate value of these in Indian currency was Rs.12,87,510.
CISF said that Harpreet Singh along with the recovered foreign currency was handed over to Customs Officials for further legal action.
