National Hockey Coach on Tuesday announced that he had resigned from his position, citing the bureaucracy present in Indian sport.

"The decision making processes that take place in the bureaucracy of Indian sport is not centred around any particular group, and that includes players, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Hockey India. This has caused me great difficulty," Walsh told ANI.

However, Walsh added that family commitments have also played a part in his resignation.

"It has been very hard for me this year because I spent so much time away from home and I just need to be more in my home environment," Walsh said.

The Australian also said that he had an option of returning to his post and hoped that the tendering of his resignation would help the sports bodies in India address his grievances.

"According to my contract, there is an option of one month, where we can come to an understanding and new rules are drawn up. All the bodies involved are seeking to find an amicable solution," Walsh said.

Thanking Sports Authority of India (SAI) for giving him an opportunity to work as head coach of the team, Walsh further said, "I thank you for the honour and opportunity to have worked with an Indian National Program for the last twelve months. I wish the Sports Authority of India every success as it builds into and beyond the 2016 Olympic Games."

Under Walsh's guidance, the Indian men's hockey team won gold in the recently held Asian Games in Incheon, thereby qualifying for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
