Australian captain Michael Clarke has said that disgraced opener David Warner may miss this summer's Ashes after his bar-room brawl with England's Joe Root.
The left-hander has been suspended until the first Ashes test by Cricket Australia (CA) and fined 11, 500 dollars after throwing a punch at Root in a Birmingham pub, following Australia's loss to England in their ICC Champions Trophy opener, the Mirror reports.
Claiming that Warner could find it difficult to regain a place in his side for the Ashes, Clarke said that the along with Australia's ended Champions Trophy campaign, the batsman will also miss their two lead-up games before the first Test at Trent Bridge, making it difficult for him to retain his place in the Test side.
Stating that he has made it clear to Warner that his behaviour is not acceptable for an Australian cricketer, Clarke further said that Warner has let down the team and the supporters of Australian cricket, adding that he has been punished and must now suffer the consequences.
Slamming the five other members of the Australian team who were also out drinking with Warner that night, despite their defeat to rivals England, Clarke further said that they had also been made aware that they had also made a poor decision.
According to Clarke, although he is not against celebrating success, players should not be out drinking with the opposition, who have beaten them, at 2:30 am if they do not have any reason to celebrate as it sends out the wrong message.
Stating that there is a time and a place for enjoyment, Clarke felt that it should have hurt the players as proud Australians after their loss.
Clarke, who is an injury worry for the Ashes, having missed his team's first two Champions Trophy matches with a back injury, however, claimed that he was ready to draw a line under Warner's indiscretion, given the busy schedule ahead for his side.
