Australian captain Michael Clarke, opener David Warner, James Pattinson and Shaun Marsh are reportedly among the players included in the 14-man one-day international squad to play England.

Although Warner was suspended during the Champions Trophy in England mid-year for punching England's Joe Root and then overlooked for the one-day series in England and India, his domestic one-day form was exceptional and he is by far and away the highest run scorer in the Ashes series.

According to Sport24, chairman of selectors John Inverarity said that it is a well-balanced squad, adding that Clarke, Marsh and Pattinson have been included after being unavailable through injury for the series against India in October while Warner has won back his place with his outstanding recent form.

Inverarity further said that Phillip Hughes, Adam Voges, Moises Henriques and Callum Ferguson have lost their places despite all four being in good form as there are three outstanding players in Clarke, Warner and Marsh coming back and the selectors believe their inclusion provides the squad with several batting options.

The report mentioned that Ryobi Cup man of the series Cameron White has been overlooked despite continuing his good form in the Sheffield Shield, while Pattinson made a successful return from injury in the Twenty20 Big Bash League tournament.

The five-match series runs from January 12 to 26, the report added.

The 14-player Australian squad is: Clarke (c), George Bailey (vc), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Xavier Doherty, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Clint McKay, Pattinson, Warner, Shane Watson.
