A monitoring group has said that almost 815 people have been killed in 40 days of fighting between the Kurdish troops and the Islamic State (IS) in the Syrian town of Kobane.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Sunday that the IS, which has seen about 481 of its fighters being killed, has sustained the highest casualties in the offensive launched in mid-September to capture the strategic Syrian town which is located on the Syrian-Turkish border, reported News 24.

The toll also includes 302 Kurdish soldiers killed in the combat and 21 Kurdish civilians, 17 of which were executed by the terror group.

The United States and Arab nations have stepped-up their aerial campaign against the group after IS gained ground in the Syrian town in recent days.
