The Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi backing Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the alleged DDCA corruption charge case was a clear hint for Jaitley to resign.

"In the Hawala scam, Mr. Advani resigned and then came back. If the Prime Minister is drawing the parallel of Mr. Arun Jaitley to the Hawala scam and Mr. Advani, I do not know whether the Prime Minister is giving hint to Arun Jaitley that he also should resign, get cleared like Advani and come back. That is my way of reading the PM's statement in this matter. It is the PM's signal to Arun Jaitley," Yechuri told a a press conference here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday backed Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and said the latter will come out of DDCA corruption charges with "flying colours" in the some manner that senior BJP leader LK Advani did during the Hawala case.

"Arun Jaitley will come out with flying colours in the same manner as (senior BJP leader) L.K. Advani did in the hawala case... the Congress is raking up manufactured allegations to defame the (BJP-led) government," Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu quoted Modi as saying at a BJP parliamentary party meeting.

PM Modi's remarks come six days after AAP first made the allegations and there has been much speculation on why the BJP's top leadership had not rushed to support Mr Jaitley, though other ministers have rallied around him.
