Kerela Chief Minister on Tuesday said that the state government is closely monitoring the situation in Iraq and is in touch with Indian government and Indian Ambassador in Baghdad.

"We are very closely watching the developments in Iraq. Lot of Keralaites are there, they also want to come back to Kerala. We have contacted the Union government and also the Indian Ambassador in Bagdad for help," said Chandy.

Congress party leader P.C. Chacko requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure that stuck-up Indians are brought back safely.

"Around 55 nurses, in one single place, are crying for rescue and government of India should seek assistance of the rulers there, and should arrange to evacuate them . We request the Prime Minister to urgently intervene." said Chacko.

He said that most of the nurses are from Kerala, and it is a very serious situation in the Iraq.

"I know the agony through which their families are going. They are now almost held up and they don't find any help coming in. People are mercilessly being killed. Killing and counter-killing is going on. They are virtually under terror," he added.
