Coimbatore bakers create novel Christmas cakes to pitch in Indian markets

A festive mood is gripping India with Christmas round the corner, as bakers experiment by creating novel theme based Christmas cakes and pitching in confectionery markets across the country.

People thronged a twenty-day long annual cake show organized here. The highlights of the show were the rich chocolate plum cakes and Christmas theme based cakes.

"Every year for Christmas and New Year we used to display huge varieties of cakes. As part of that we have displayed a number of cakes here from rich plum cakes to the pastries. Nowadays theme cakes are fast moving and we have displayed a few theme cakes which include "Chhota Bheem cartoon series", "Snowhite", "Barbie" and a few varieties," said Cake Designer and show in charge, Subashree.

She added that it took 48 hours to design the cakes.

Meanwhile, a visitor enjoying the cake show, Shalini, said the theme based cakes were a must-watch among all the visitors.

"I was informed about the cake show and I came to see the display. The cakes are made with different themes and look very attractive," said she.
