Asserting that the integrity of the armed forces was beyond reproach, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Major General Asif Ghafoor has clarified that comments by a few people regarding the head of premier intelligence agency were baseless and unwarranted.

The DG ISPR took to Twitter to clarify what may be called an allegation by Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) senior Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, who had earlier said that Sharif brothers had family relations with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

"Comments by few regarding head of premier intelligence agency are baseless, misleading and unwarranted. Integrity of armed forces is beyond reproach," Ghafoor tweeted.

Earlier, in a 3-2 judgement on the case, Pakistan's apex court ordered the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to continue probing the allegations of financial irregularities and money laundering, while noting that at present, there is "insufficient evidence to remove Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif."

The JIT has been given two months to complete the probe into the matter and his sons Hussain and Hasan, all of whom have also been directed to appear before the JIT. The investigators will also have to present bi-weekly reports to a special bench of the Supreme Court.

Following this, the PPP rallied behind their leaders and staged a protest in the Parliament, while asking Sharif to resign to "save the democracy."

Talking to the media, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said that on corruption allegations, the PPP government was dissolved, but with same charges Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was still ruling.

The PPP leader further said that Maryam Nawaz was the key character of Panama Case but she had been given a Clean Chit. He also alleged that Sharif brothers had family relations with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
