Taking a dig at the opposition after their call for 'Aakrosh Diwas' evoked a lukewarm response across the nation, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said that the reason their call had failed was because they were intimidated by the aakrosh (anguish) of people who have backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation decision.

"The opposition, who were calling for Bandh on Aakrosh Diwas, witnessed the aakrosh of the people. They were intimidated by the people's Aakrosh that is why it was difficult to trace Bharat Bandh today. I think they are realising that their stand was wrong," Rudy told ANI here.

Nationwide protests were held yesterday against the central government's "mishandling" of their decision to demonetise currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000.

Only the Left Front in West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala had called a 'Bahrat Bandh' and carried out protest.

The Congress Party said that their protest is against the Centre's attack on white money and for creating hardship for the common people and would only resort to protest as the 'bandh' would cause inconvenience to people.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during her rally in Kolkata, vowed to evict Prime Minster Narendra Modi from Indian politics.

"Whether I die or live I will remove Prime Minister Modi from politics," she said.
