The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday congratulated boxer M C Mary Kom on winning gold in the women's 48-51 kilograms final in the Asian Games going on in Incheon, South Korea.
Congratulating Mary Kom, Congress leader Anand Sharma said here, "This is a matter of joy for the country and its indeed a matter of pride that Mary Mom has once again won a gold medal."
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said, "I want to extend my heartiest congratulations to Mary Kom."
Kom defeated Kazakhstan's Zhaina Shekerbekova 3-1 in the Seonhak gym. She lost the first round to Shekerbekova but made a tremendous comeback to win the rest of the four rounds.
The five-time world boxing champion led India to the seventh gold in the 2014 Asian Games. Kom is the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each of the six world championships.
India currently stand on the 10th place in the Asian Games having bagged seven gold, eight silver and 32 bronze medals overall till now.
